Pro-Life Homily Strategy
Brian Murphy
During our Humanae Vitae Conferences for clergy, I present the current dire situation regarding the overwhelming need for clear teaching from the pulpit for life issues. I invite the attending priests to give four homilies a year on Humanae Vitae. These homilies must not be simply a vague reference to the subject. Rather, they must clearly contain the four following major points:
- Catholics are called to generosity in procreation. See HV 10.
- Contraception and sterilization are serious intrinsic evils that are mortal sins.
- Receiving communion while in a state of mortal sin from these evils only compounds one's guilt and the risk of everlasting condemnation.
- The only remedy to one's guilt is to repent, change direction and seek forgiveness through the Sacrament of Reconciliation.
